WebP Image Scanner

Open-Source Web Application

Excel on the Web created the WebP Image Scanner for our own website work, then made it available for anyone to use. It is a public, open-source web application for finding images that could benefit from WebP conversion.

Enter a website address and the scanner checks its pages for images served in other formats. Its optional conversion feature creates WebP copies of discovered images and packages them in a downloadable ZIP file.

The tool brings image discovery, savings estimates, and PDF reporting into one workflow. Users can review the findings and download converted files to apply to their websites.

You can use the version hosted on Excel on the Web’s servers or run the application on your own server. The GitHub repository includes the source code and self-hosting instructions. The project is open source under AGPL-3.0.

This project demonstrates our custom programming work: turning a tool we needed into an application others can use, inspect, and adapt.
